Museum Talks - Ted Flower
Join Nigel Dique for an extraordinary journey through history with Edward (Ted) Flower, a centenarian whose life story spans the turbulent times of World War II and the subsequent rebuilding of post-war Australia.
Ted Flower was a distinguished WW2 veteran who served aboard the HMAS Manoora. This vessel played a crucial role in providing beach landing training for Australian and US troops in Port Stephens, paving the way for the Pacific Campaign, which included the momentous liberation of the Philippines.
In this heartfelt video, Ted shares vivid memories of his childhood, his war service, and offers a unique perspective on the life of a returned serviceman in post-war Australia. Beyond his military service, Ted’s enduring bond with the Filipino people is a testament to his compassionate spirit. He generously sponsored the education of several Filipino students, seeing them through to their graduations.
Ted Flower’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to both his country and the global community. His passing on 23 August 2024, just one month shy of his 101st birthday, marks the end of an era but his stories and contributions will forever be remembered.
Lest we forget.
