About this object"Spindrift" owned by James Bathurst "Jim" Kelaher.
Jim with his wife Irene and sons, Victor, Kenneth and Leon moved to Lemon Tree Passage in 1923 with high hopes of starting a new life in the oyster industry. Unfortunately in 1928 the oyster market collapsed. Jim would send bags of oysters to the Sydney and Melbourne markets and receive no return but still had to pay for the freight. The bank foreclosed on the Kelahers and they returned to Sydney so Jim could resume work as a builder.
In "A History of the Tilligerry Peninsula" by Ken Kelaher he recalls "We had a fine boat called the "Spindrift" and would haul it up onto the beach for painting".
