Marie Ann; TMA2021.00126.2.1
TMA2021.00126.2.1; Marie Ann; Shipwright; Marie Ann - Fishing Vessel used in the Oyster Industry. Owned by the Barclays. The launch "Marie Ann" on the punt - Kay Barclay in foreground. The bung (plug) was pulled out of the punt at low tide. As the tide came in, the punt filled with water and stayed on the bottom. The launch was then maneuvered over the punt on high tide so that it was equally balanced across the punt. When the tide dropped the launch settled neatly on the punt. On the bottom of the tide when the water had drained out of the punt the bung was replaced and as the tide rose the launch would be lifted as the punt floated. This ingenious method enabled the Barclays to move the launch anywhere to be painted or scaped for barnacles. ; Fishing VesselPhotography
